After a disappointing loss to Dundalk in the League last time out, Declan Devine’s men will need to perform to the best of their ability to come away from Tallaght with another win and three points. Already 9 points off the pace, and with a number of players still on the injury list, this is going to be a tough ask and Devine will have to call on the youth within the squad once again.
Speaking ahead of the game , Declan Devine said, “The lads know that they will have to up their game from last Monday night if we are to get anything from the game in Tallaght. We know it will be a tough game against the Champions and we will have to rely on a number of our young players once again, but myself and Paul (Hegarty) have always believed in giving youth a chance. Admittedly it’s come a little earlier in the season than we would have liked but we have to deal with the injuries we have and just get on with the job at hand. The most important thing for us now is to finish out the week with a positive result against Rovers”.
On progressing to the Setanta Sports Cup final Devine had these thoughts: “The boys have worked very hard to get us to the final. Along the way they have to get past both the IFA League Champions and the League of Ireland Champions so it hasn’t been an easy path. The Final being at The Oval will also be very special for me, not only as the manager of the first Derry City team to make it to the All Ireland final but as a former Glentoran player it will be great to be back in The Oval on such an occasion.”
Derry will be without the services of Stewart Greacen (knee) and Rory Patterson (foot) while Kevin Deery, Shane McEleney and Owen Morrison will be assessed on Friday.
