City host high flying Drogs

Derry City v Drogheda United, Brandywell, 7.45pm kickoff

Fifth plays fourth tomorrow night at the Brandywell as City host Mick Cooke’s Drogheda United side the Brandywell.  Having thrown away a late lead in Cork and dumped out of the League Cup on Tuesday, City will be looking to get their week back on track with three points.Cooke’s side have been one of the surprise packages of the season and have only lost two Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers this season, so they will prove a stern test for City in the Brandywell.  Indeed the visitors were easy winners early in the season when they defeated Derry 2-0 in United Park in late March.

Devine is still hobbled by injury and suspensions. Ryan McBride,  Stewart Greacen, Barry Molloy, Mark Farren, Kevin Deery are amongst those definately ruled out between suspensions and injury.  In addition Owen Morrison is a doubt through injury as the new manager looks to arrest a damaging run of dropped points in the Brandywell.

DERRY CITY

Derry City will be keen to bounce back from their league cup hammering at Sligo in mid week when they take on Mick Cooke’s Drogheda United in an intriguing clash at the Brandywell on Friday night (k.o 7.45).

Drogheda are sitting in fourth position in the table, one place ahead of the Candystripes and Declan Devine will be keen to take advantage of the game being at home as he seeks to climb the table after an up and down season so far.

Devine is looking for his players to improve their patchy home form and said, ” Our home form has been poor so we need to take responsibility and make sure we’re better but we’ve got to get a few bodies back into the team. We knew at the start of the year we’d be working off a smaller panel and when four or five of your most experienced players are missing its very difficult.”
