City look to bounce back for Cork visit

Derry City v Cork City, Brandywell, 7.45pm

Having fallen to a 3-0 defeat to St Pats on Monday, Declan Devine will want an instant response from his side with the visit of Cork City.  Devine will be mindful that City threw away a 2-0 lead to the same opposition back in June and will be demanding a big performance from his players.

t will be a battle of the cities this Friday night at The Brandywell as the home side welcome Cork City to Foyleside. Derry will be looking to pick themselves up after a disappointing result last Monday night in Richmond Park. That three nil loss saw Derry concede more than two goals away from home for only the second time this season and came off the back of four games  without conceding.

The Candystripes know that their home form has been less than perfect this season and if they are to stand any chance of gaining European qualification they need to pick up maximum points from their final four home games starting with Cork City.   So far this season the sides have meet twice with Derry coming out on top in the Brandywell with goals from Mark Farren and Stephen McLaughlin sealing a two nil win. And a tight two all draw in Turners cross saw Derry remain unbeaten against the Cork side since August 13th 2010.
Speaking ahead of the game Declan Devine had these thoughts. “After a good couple of wins we will be looking to get back to winning ways after Mondays defeat to St Pats, I felt that fatigue played a big part in that defeat but we must pick ourselves up and not feel sorry for ourselves after such a defeat. We have a big week ahead of us with this game on Friday then Drogheda away on Monday and the Cup game against Mervue the Friday after. Having said that I have never known a game against Cork City to be an easy one so getting back to winning ways will not that easy.”
Derry will go into this game without the services of Stewart Greacen who damaged his Medial Ligament during the loss to St Patrick’s Athletic on Monday evening and will; be sidelined for at least three weeks.
