Derry City v Drogheda United, Maginn Park, 7.45pm
Derry will look to put last week’s nightmare 5-0 home defeat to Bray Wanderers behind them when they face Drogheda United tonight at Maginn.
City have lost third place and fallen behind Shamrock Rovers in recent weeks in the race for a guaranteed spot in the Europa League qualifiers in recent weeks with a run of defeats. However with the Hoops losing to St Pats earlier in the week, City can still harbour hopes of catching Bradley’s side.
However all the focus must be on securing the three points tonight, as City have leaked goals at an alarming rate in recent weeks, shipping four goals to Dundalk in consecutive weeks before the heavy defeat last week. However with bottom side Drogheda visiting, City have an opportunity to get back to winning ways.
The Drogs lost 3-0 to Dundalk las week and are missing a host of players between suspensions and injury. Drogheda will be without the suspended pair of Chris Mulhall and Thomas Byrne while Gavin Brennan, Stephen Dunne, Jake Hyland and Sean Russell miss out through injury.
City defeated Drogheda 4-0 at Maginn earlier in the season and also drew in United Park. However Shiels will be hoping that his side can find their goalscoring form, having missed a number of good chances to get back into the game last week against Bray.
Looking at City – Shiels will look to welcome back Darren Cole and Dean Jarvis this week. It is hope that the return of the more experienced defensive figures may help to shore up City’s defensive woes in recent weeks. However Nathan Boyle may miss out due to injury problems.
