The Chairman and Board of Derry City Football Club wishes all their staff and players and most especially their fans a very happy Christmas and New Year.
We are leaving behind a difficult and emotional year. The death of Ryan McBride will be painfully present to his family and to all at the Club this Christmas.
We will enter this new season with renewed hope and confidence. It is already encouraging to see the number of people around the town wearing Derry City colours. The new kit has clearly caught the imagination of old and young and we are assured that before and during the season even greater numbers will wear it with pride.
Season tickets are also selling well. As is often pointed out, the most effective way to support the club is to purchase a season ticket. It is encouraging that there are new names among those who have already purchased their tickets and that a large portion of those are young people. The club needs a significant increase in its supporter base and it has been suggested that if every supporter introduced one new person to the home games it would make a great difference to the financial health of the club
It is very encouraging that initial sales of tickets are extremely good and even though we have not yet reached capacity we should warn fans that there is greater demand this season and that we don’t wish to see our regular supporters unable to get their normal seats. So, as the wise ones say, shop early.
The new stadium and facilities is something that we all look forward to experiencing. The Council has assured us that all will be ready for the new season and that they hope that stage 2 of the development will commence in the near future.
Our manager has been busy strengthening the team with a good number of new signings. The strong core of young talented local players strengthened with a nucleus of experienced players will enhance our prospects and ambitions to put this famous club back where it belongs, at the very top.
Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year
