Tracey’s goal earns draw for NI U17s

Derry City’s U19 player, Joshua Tracey,  scored a late equaliser for Northern Ireland U17s in this evening’s Elite Round qualifier vs Netherlands.

Northern Ireland fought back from 2-0 down to earn a draw against the mini-tournament hosts and will now play Norway on Saturday.

Derry City 1-1 Drogheda United

It was a case of two points dropped rather than one gained as Drogheda United keeper Gabriel Sava frustrated Derry City during their Airtricity League 1-1 draw at the Brandywell.

Sava was hands down man-of-the-match as he made a raft of outstanding saves to deny striker Rory Patterson in particular on numerous occasions. Ryan McBride gave the hosts a first half lead, but Mick Daly equalised for the visitors late on. [Read more...]

Derry City 0 – 1 Sligo Rovers

Champions Sligo Rovers produced a workmanlike display to deservedly claim all three points with a 1-0 win at Derry City.

International Call-Ups for Barr, Harkin and Tracey

ifa-logoDerry City’s Conor Barr and Ryan Harkin have been included in the Northern Ireland Under-18 Schools’ squad which will entertain their Scottish counterparts in Dungannon this Friday. Whilst Joshua Tracey will travel with the Northern Ireland U17 squad to play in Slovenia at the weekend.

City boss Declan Devine told the Derry Journal that he welcomed the attention, but agreed that young players would also lose out in his pre-season preparations which was not ideal.

Airtricity League live television games announced

airtricity_leagueRTÉ have selected the Munster derby between Limerick and Cork City as their first live game of the new 2013 Airtricity League season. The Premier Division match at Thomond Park has been moved to Sunday, March 10, to facilitate the broadcast and the kick-off will be at 5.15pm. It will be shown on RTÉ Two

During the opening month of the season RTÉ will also screen the match between Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday, March 15 and the Shelbourne v Shamrock Rovers game which will now take place on Sunday, March 24.

RTÉ also intend to screen a match on Friday, March 29, but have not yet selected a game. [Read more...]

International Call-Ups for McNamee, Tourish and Slevin

faiBarry McNamee has been named in Noel King’s Republic of Ireland U21 squad for a practice match against Leinster & Munster, who are preparing for the forthcoming UEFA Regions Cup.

The Irish U21 select will be an entirely home-based panel and King believes this exercise can be very fruitful for both teams.

“The Leinster & Munster side are obviously preparing for their tournament and are a very strong team so this will be an excellent opportunity for our players to show our management team what they can do,” said King. [Read more...]

Larne 0 – 2 Derry City Reserves

234Derry City Reserves kicked off their pre-season programme with a 2-0 victory over Larne at Inver Park this afternoon.

Derry’s opening goal came courtesy of an own goal, however Connor Harkin made it 2-0, with a fine taken goal – racing through from deep before rounding the keeper and coolly slotting home.

City friendly re-arranged

stuteThe Billy Kee Memorial friendly involving Institute and Derry City, will take place on Tuesday, February 26, at the Riverside Stadium (KO 7.30pm).

The friendly, which has been postponed on a number of occasions because of the recent terrible weather, will be one of the last games for Declan Devine’s side prior to the Airtricity League Premier Division campaign kicking off in March against champions Sligo Rovers.

Derry City’s biggest fan lifts the FAI Cup
