Ger is a versatile defender who joined Derry City from Shamrock Rovers in February 2009 on a three-year full time deal.
Born in Dublin, he began his career with Cherry Orchard, before a short spell at Athlone Town. O'Brien moved to Kildare County in 2004 and it was there he begn to make a name for himself as one of the most promising young full-backs in the country.
He followed former Kildare boss Pat Scully to Shamrock Rovers at the start of the 2006 season, winning Player of the Year in 2007 and earning a number of U23 Republic of Ireland international caps.
