Derry City Football Club - Cityview: Matchday Programme

Cityview – 22 Years Supporting Derry City FC

Since 1985, League of Ireland match-day experiences at Brandywell stadium have been augmented by Cityview, the official match-day programme of Derry City Football Club.

Every league, FAI Cup, League Cup, and European fixture over the past 22 years has been catered for from the day the late Paddy Doherty put pen to paper in the summer of 1985 right up to the articles which are currently being created for the 2007 season.

Cityview has provided loyal Derry City fans and supporters of opposition clubs visiting the Brandywell with information on current affairs within the world of Irish football; League of Ireland, Irish League, European, and world football news; player profiles; fan views; a regular message from the manager; team news; a half-time quiz; a layout of Brandywell stadium and safety directives; Derry City history and honours; and an editorial on the game and opposition.

Considered by many an integral element of supporting Derry City Football Club and an essential part of the match-day experience, Cityview has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years. On various occasions in Derry City’s highly successful 2006 campaign, Cityview sold more than 1,000 copies in an hour prior to the game. It is estimated that Derry City’s Programme Committee met the demand for in the region of 20,000 copies last season, and seek to better that over the course of the 2007 season.

Cityview has long established itself as an absolutely vital element in the success and financial wellbeing of Derry City Football Club as well as being one of the most important means of communication for the club. It is safe to say that without a successful Cityview and other marketing and communication branches of the club, Derry City Football Club would not be in the enviable position it currently is.

Fully supported by local, national, and international corporate entities, Cityview provides prospective sponsors with the ability to not only align themselves with the success of Derry City FC, but to actually make a valuable contribution to that success. The Programme Committee is grateful to all those companies who contribute to Cityview and whose input ensures that, prior to each season, The Programme Committee can ensure that a match-day programme will be available at every competitive fixture for the upcoming season.

The benefit to each advertiser is that in excess of 15,000 copies are sold sporting their advertisement or sponsorship, and Derry City fans loyally support those who support their club. With the most substantial club membership in Ireland, Derry City Football Club is in the best position to offer advertisers and sponsors access to the largest official fanbase in domestic Irish football and Cityview provides the club and the advertiser with the perfect forum to reach each and every one of those supporters.

Following extensive pre-season work in December 2006 and January 2007, Derry City’s Programme Committee, are already in a position to produce a match-day programme for each Setanta Cup, eircom League of Ireland, and UEFA Cup game as well as any FAI Cup and League Cup games to be scheduled for Brandywell stadium.

The format for the 2007 season will be slightly changed from the highly successful arrangement of the past few years but, following consultation with Derry City supporters, many of the most popular articles and sections of Cityview will remain in place.

Cityview has already secured the services of three new contributors who will clearly give 2007’s match-day programme a renewed vigour and some different views to those which have been prevalent in recent years. In addition Cityview will continue to aim to air the views of everyone who elects to contribute to the content of the programme.

For the first time in six years, the Programme Committee has decided that in order to enable Cityview to maintain it’s important role in ensuring the future of Derry City Football Club, there will be a minor increase in the cost of what is arguably Ireland’s best football match-day programme. It is extremely important to remember though that 100% of the £2.00 it will cost to purchase Cityview in 2007 will go directly to securing the future of Derry City FC, assisting in the development of the club, and ensuring that League of Ireland football remains at the forefront of sporting life in the Maiden City.

In addition to new contributors it is expected that new sections of Cityview will concentrate on exactly what Derry City supporters want to read. In addition to the Fan Focus, a player interview is planned as well as regular player statistics, an up-to-date League table, current team affairs including news on player injuries and suspensions, Under 21 and Under 18 sections focusing on our younger squads; a message from the manager, the editorial on that evening’s game, the ever-popular half-time quiz; and opinion pieces from some of our long-serving contributors.

One of the most exciting changes to Cityview in the 2007 season will be the fact that it will now be available to purchase from anywhere in the world. The Programme Committee have decided that Derry City supporters around the globe should have the opportunity to purchase Derry City FC’s official match-day programme. So, it will soon be possible for anyone to buy either a single issue or an entire season’s copies of Cityview at the click of a button.

Cityview arrives in the hands of football fans hot off the press at the Brandywell, and fans of the Candystripes from around the world who have ordered their subscription will have their copy of Cityview dispatched to them on the day of the game. Prices are inclusive of postage and packaging, and are dictated by postage charges for the different regions of the world.

For those supporters in a position to attend the Brandywell on match days, Cityview vendors will be positioned in Brandywell Avenue, inside Brandywell stadium opposite the Southend Park turnstiles, in the Southend Park stand, and inside Brandywell stadium opposite the Lone Moor Road turnstiles.
