Derry City Dream Draw: 2008

Derry City Football Club's Development Committee have officially launched the club's major fund-raising draw for 2008 - with the project hoping to raise £100,000 for the 'Candy Stripes.'

And having already enjoyed phenomenal success in their previous draws for two appartments in the Roneragh Complex at Fahan, Co. Donegal, the local club appears to have pushed the boat out prior to the kick-off of the new eircom League season.

Derry have purchased a two-bedroom apartment in a Polaris World Golf Resort in Murcia, south-eastern Spain, and the village-style complex is surrounded by three Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses.

Making the project all the more interesting in the fact that a number of low cost airline carriers link the Murcia area to both Belfast and Dublin with regular flights and with the city of Alicante not too far away, flights to that particular area of Spain can be accessed on a daily basis.

Commenting prior to the launch of what's expected to be the major fund-raising effort this season, Derry City's Development Committee chairman, Delcan Curran, said he was particularly excited at the idea and believed it would equal if not surpass previous fund-raising efforts.

"Obviously this is a major fund-raiser for the 2008 season and as chairman of the Development Committee, I'd like to express the committee's sincere thanks to the various draw sponsors and to the efforts of all those who have worked and continue to work voluntarily behind the scenes to support the club," he said.

"The apartment is sited in the Condado De Alhama Polaris World restort in Murcia and it offers a superb opportunity not just to sports fans, but also to those who enjoy the sun and wish to relax and chill out in what's a comparatively new restort in south-eastern Spain.

"The resort offers top quality golfing facilities with no few than three Jack Nicklaus courses within close proximity but it also offers tennis, football, basketball and 'paddle tennis' facilities as well. Olympic pools are located inside a large sports complex and for those who simply wish to relax and bask in the sun, everything they desire is available within the village complex," added Mr. Curran.

"A five star hotel is also included within the resort and I've absolutely no doubt that whoever wins this prize will certainly believe that a dream has come true."

Runners-Up Prizes

In addition to the top prize of the apartment, runners-up prizes of a new Ford Fiesta car plus a kitchen worth £5,000, are also on offer to those who purchase tickets.

As was the case in previous draws, tickets will cost £100 and there are various methods of payment available over a 10 months period.

"I think it's very important that the Development Committee continue to make the project affordable to all Derry City supporters and, indeed, to all members of the local community.

"Many opt to pay £10 per month by standing order over the next ten months while others are happy to simply pay-up for their tickets in their local places of work, local pubs and clubs etc," continued Mr. Curran.

The Development chairman also insisted that the draw would play an integral role in financing the squad available to Derry manager, Stephen Kenny, as he hoped to add a number of new players before the start of the season.

"It's my view that the draw will prove a fantastic vehicle to raise vital finance as we prepare for the new campaign. As a community-based club, we see this project as a great way to not only have a chance of winning a dream holiday home, but also as a very important way to support the football club.

"The success of the draw will, without doubt, have a major impact on the budget offered to Stephen Kenny as he attempts to re-build the squad and place Derry City back at the business end of the Premier Division table."

Tickets can pe purchased through the club, or online via the DCFC Online Store.
