Derry’s unbeaten streak at the new Brandywell was ended by Dundalk on Monday night.
It started brightly as from a cleared corner in Dundalk’s box, Darren Cole’s wonder effort beat Gary Rogers and had the home crowd buzzing.
Fifteen minutes later, ex-Candystripe Michael Duffy’s cross was met by the head of Brian Gartland for a goal the put the sides back on level terms.
Duffy was again pivotal in a quality passing move which sent Benson through to round Ger Doherty and to put Dundalk into the lead at the break.
It wasn’t long before Dundalk doubled their lead as Doyle gave the ball away following a Derry corner and a speedy counter-attack from the Lilywhites set up Michael Duffy to score.
As City struggled to get a goal that would get them back into the game, Adorján sealed the victory for Dundalk by netting in injury time.
