A new cup to commemorate the champions.
This week marks the anniversary of City clinching the famous “Treble” back in the 1988/89 – City marked the 25th anniversary of the event with the star studded dinner in the City Hotel which saw many of the players come together with board members, supporters and other distinguished guests.
Whilst next year’s 30th anniversary may once again be marked with a way of nostalgia, this week’s anniversary happened to coincide with some new giftware in the club shop that happens to mark the event.
City fan Damien Lowry has embarked on a labour of love to catalogue and design all the shirts that the club have ever worn and his work features on the club website here.
The merchandise group at the club struck upon the idea of shirts that mark the titles that City have won during our time in the League of Ireland. The mugs feature the shirts from the 1987/88, 1988/89, 1996/97 and 2010 seasons when City lifted either the First Division or Premier Division titles.
Damien expressed his pride that his project had gone further than he first may have imagined
“Researching the history of the club is a passion of mine and that I thought it would be good to have the history of shirts on record.”
Like many, Damien comes from a long line of City fans and his father has been a regular at the Brandywell since the 1960s.
Damien is delighted that the mugs have proved such a popular item so far.
“It makes me very proud to see my designs on an official item of merchandise especially as it was a personal project and something I put so much effort into doing. ”
Do these shirts bring back memories?
The mugs are available in the merchandise store at the Brandywell which is open Wed-Fri 12-3, Saturday 10-2 and on match nights.
