Declan Devine hopes his side will be able to bounce back from defeat at Tallaght on Friday night when they entertain Waterford at the Brandywell on Monday evening (KO 7.45).
On Rovers Loss
The Derry boss was in reflective mood having watched a re-run of the loss to Rovers- a couple of errors leading to the two goals and then a late red card which will rob him of Jamie McDonagh for the Waterford contest.
“There wasn’t much between the two teams outside of those but we’ve looked at our performance and just as we did in the win over UCD we’ll learn from it and move on.”
Devine though insisted that he was expecting a very rigorous test from Alan Reynolds’ men- a team he thinks will be bang in the title race this season.
“They’re a top side with a top manager. Alan has brought in some fantastic talent and has transformed them since their promotion a couple of seasons ago.”
“Their midfield trio of Shane Duggan, JJ Lunney and Bastien Hery is the best in the league in my opinion but they have quality across the back as well and Akinade is a real handful up top.”
“We have plenty of quality ourselves however and if we play to our ability then it should be some game.”
“This is a really good bunch of players and we knew that this would be a tough part of the season for us. It won’t be difficult at all to get them up and ready to go again.”
‘I’m hoping our supporters come out in numbers for this one as well because they really lifted us on opening night. That backing can make a real difference in matches like this.”
Devine said that Daren Cole would be given a fitness test ahead of the game to see if he would be included in the squad having missed the Rovers defeat through injury.
On match day from 7pm, tickets will be on sale from Long Tower Youth Club which can be accessed from the stadium car park.
