U17 | Monaghan Cavan FP 1-3 Derry City
Derry City started their 2019 League of Ireland under-17 season with a determined win in Monaghan on Saturday afternoon.
Difficult conditions saw the young Candystripes struggle to get a grip on the game and after a goalless first half, the hosts took the lead in the 55th minute.
Mo Mahon and Donal O’Brien are taking charge of the Derry 17’s this year and falling behind seemed to spark their lads into life.
Ronan McKinley, a recent call-up to the national under-17’s brought the teams level soon after and Derry took the game by the scruff of the neck from there on.
Dom Dunne put the visitors in front midway through the second half with Evan McLaughlin adding a third before the end to seal the points.
City entertain Longford next weekend as they bid to build on the momentum of Saturday’s victory.
