This weekend’s opening underage double-header was against Longford Town.
Sunday 11th March
- U17: Derry City 2 – 1 Longford Town | Harris (2)
- U19: Longford Town 1 – 2 Derry City | Dunn, Farren
The Candystripes’ under-17’s and under-19’s doubled-up on Sunday to post 2-1 victories over their respective Longford counterparts.
The 17’s were always in control of affairs at Brandywell where a Michael Harris brace either side of half time saw the home side take a deserved 2-0 lead.
Patrick Ferry and Tiernan McGuinness also impressed for Mo Mahon and Donal O’Brien’s lads and although the visitors managed a late consolation, Derry were worthy winners.
The 19’s travelled south with just 13 players because of registration issues but they too managed to come away with the win.
City had to come from behind in this one and despite difficult conditions, goals from Dominic Dunn and Kieron Farren helped them claim the points.
Coach, Shaun Holmes, was full of praise for his charges who had to dig deep for the victory.
“They put in some shift today. The weather was all over the place and the pitch cut up soft but they battled really hard and deserved to win.”
