Derry City 2-0 Sligo Rovers
Friday night’s game at the Brandywell seen Sligo Rovers make their first visit of the season as City looked to get back on track following the Dundalk defeat.
City made two changes to the lineup with Gartside replacing the injured Cherrie in goal and Stokes in for Conor McDermott.
In a quiet first half, both Gartside and Stokes featured in chances at either end. Stokes hit the side netting as the crowd thought he’d scored and Gartside pulled off a great save from Kerrigan’s strike from distance.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Barry McNamee pounced on a loose ball and played in Parkhouse who sent a shot across Beaney in the Sligo goal and into the bottom left corner of the net.
Sligo began pushing further up and the closest they came was Coughlan side-footing the ball wide from within the Derry box.
In stoppage time, City caught Rovers on the counter and sub Seraf played in Ciaron Harkin whose half-cross/shot found the net and secured the win for Derry.
City face Longford in the EA SPORTS Cup 2nd Rnd on Tuesday night at the Brandywell. Tickets available now.
