Derry City v Cork City – Fri 26th April – KO 7.45pm – Brandywell
SSE Airtricity League
Match Sponsor: Hivolt Capacitors
The hectic schedule continues unabated for Derry City over the next 72-hours with two more crucial league games against Cork City and Bohemians respectively looming large.
Declan Devine refused to dwell too much on what many felt was a frustrating return of just one point from matches against Shamrock Rovers and Waterford, preferring instead to take away the positives.
“We’re a work in progress as we’ve said all along- we’re a new team and a young team and we need to learn from games like those.”
“Obviously we were worth more than we got but the games keep coming so there’s not much time for feeling sorry for ourselves.”
“Cork City are here on Friday night and our league history is littered with great games against them.”
“They’re a far better side than what their results this year would suggest and it goes without saying that we will treat them with full respect in our preparations.”
“Because of our programme we will continue to freshen things up where we feel it may be necessary. The guys who have come in recently had done really well, so that creates a selection problem and that’s one I don’t mind having.”
“We have a couple of niggles here and there as you would expect after that number of games- Ally Gilchrist sat out training today- but there’s nothing major. I won’t risk anyone who isn’t 100% because we have options that I have full confidence in.”
“I would also like to pay tribute to our supporters who have been amazing this year and were excellent again last Friday.”
“We have no intention of becoming a team who want a pat on the back after a defeat but I can assure them that their backing is really driving this group forward.”
Action at the Brandywell kicks off at 7.45pm.
On match day from 7pm, tickets will be on sale from Long Tower Youth Club which can be accessed from the stadium car park.
