UCD v Derry City – Fri 12th April – KO 7.45pm – UCD Bowl
SSE Airtricity League
High-flying Derry aiming for another victory
Amidst the fallout of a feisty North-West derby, Derry City are targeting back-to-back away wins in the league for the first time this season.
The Candystripes have recorded three wins from three in the last fortnight sealing an EA Sports Cup quarter-final place and a comfortable 4th place position in the SSE Airtricity League and are hoping to continue their rich vein of form as a gruelling schedule continues.
After being taught a lesson at the Brandywell to start the season the students of UCD have progressed at a simmering pace.
The University have two wins from their previous three league games having amassed just one point from their opening five fixtures.
Assistant manager Kevin Deery is under no illusion that Derry will face a tougher challenge this time around:
“At the Brandywell we played really well against them and it needs to be that mentality again.”
“Paddy McCourt played against them as recently as last year and has spoken very highly of them.”
City have been victorious in three of the last four meetings drawing the other 1-1.
“We targeted maximum points against the two newly promoted sides,” said Deery.
“They had a great win last week (UCD 4-1 Waterford) but we are halfway there.”
Jamie McDonagh is suspended having received two late bookings against Harps last week.
