Finn Harps 2-3 Derry City
The first north-west derby of the season ends with City the victors.
Whilst the first half didn’t provide any goals, it did provide a major talking point as Deasy’s horrible challenge on Coll earned him a red card, reducing Harps to 10-men.
Coll looked badly injured and couldn’t continue. He was replaced by Aidy Delap, with McDonagh moving into the full back role.
Harps did have the ball in the net after Gartside’s kick out hit the back of a player before Boyle poked in before it was disallowed.
In the second half it was a strike from Delap that opened the scoring in City’s favour before ex-Candystripe Nathan Boyle levelled for Harps.
A bullet header for David Parkhouse put Derry back in the driving seat and a mis-kick from Harps keeper Gallagher sent him through to bag his second.
In the dying seconds as Harps piled on the pressure, Gilchrist gave away a penalty to the home side.
It was Mikey Place who scored the consolation penalty with the last kick of the game as the Foylesiders hit the road home with the bragging rights in their pocket.
