St. Pat’s 1-0 Derry City
City fell to a 1-0 defeat away to St. Patrick’s Athletic on Tuesday night in Inchicore.
Devine had rung the changes from Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Sligo as Barry McNamee, Jamie McDonagh and Eoghan Stokes made way for McDermott, Bruna and Delap.
A first half goal from Kevin Toner’s unmarked header at a corner proved to be the difference.
The goal incensed the Derry bench though as Sloggett had just been ordered off the field to take care of a bloody nose prior to the corner so City were a man down marking-wise.
Darren Cole couldn’t finish the first half and was replaced by Josh Kerr as City trailed at the break.
Early in the second half, Parkhouse made way for Barry McNamee to enter the fray and try and create a goal to get City back into the game and McDonagh later replace McDermott.
McNamee played in Junior for an opening but he could only make it connect with the post as a goal escaped City.
Junior spurned another glorious chance by heading the ball wide from a great Coll cross.
With the match finishing 1-0, the result leaves St. Pat’s now just one point below Derry in the table.
Next up, City face Harps at the Brandywell in the league on Friday before facing them again on Monday in the cup.
