Highlights from a weekend of North-West Derbies at the Brandywell.
Derry City 4-0 Finn Harps | SSE Airtricity League | 24/05/19
Parkhouse was bundled over in the box leading to a penalty. Junior’s resulting effort was initially saved but he managed to score the rebound giving City the lead.
A further three goals for the Candystripes all came from Ciaron “Jackie” Harkin, the first league hat-trick for City against Harps since the days of Krstic.
Derry City 2-1 Finn Harps AET | EA SPORTS Cup Quarter-Final | 27/05/19
Scoreless at half-time, it was Harps that broke the deadlock in the second half through ex-Candystripe Nathan Boyle.
City defence of the trophy looked to be over against their nearby rivals until Parkhouse got on the end of a Ciaran Coll cross to take the game into extra-time.
Early in the first half of extra-time, a long ball over the top from Bruna sent Parkhouse and the Harps keeper into a 50/50 which Parkhouse came out on top before putting the ball into the empty net.
City managed to see out the win from there but it wasn’t without a few scares as Harps really should have scored apart from some great saves by Gartside and a goal-line clearance from Harkin.
The win puts Derry into the hat for the semi-finals.
