Shamrock Rovers v Derry City – Sat 8th Jun – KO 7.00pm – Tallaght Stadium
SSE Airtricity League
There’s some vital game-time for the Candystripes on Saturday night as they travel to Tallaght to take on high-flying Shamrock Rovers.
This is City’s only league match in five weeks, a drought that ends as it began, with three games in a week.
Manager Declan Devine may be at a loss to explain the schedule but he only has eyes for the Hoops ahead of a huge test for his charges.
The home side have won their last three games on the bounce but have seen their early season lead in the title race steadily whittled away by Dundalk, and Devine knows the size of the task ahead.
“They’re the two best teams in the country right now and they’ve set the bar for the rest of us.”
“I don’t think we’ve been a million miles behind either of the top two in any of the games we’ve played but to be fair to them they made that little bit of extra experience count.’
“Rovers are a quality side and they’re a seriously tough nut to crack, especially at home, but these are the type of challenges we have to relish.”
“On the team front, Darren Cole is doubtful and neither Patrick McClean nor Michael McCrudden are ready yet.”
“We have another three week break after Saturday night so it’s an opportunity for us to try to take something with us into the second half of the season.’
Derry unveiled new signing Darren McCauley at the club’s press conference on Friday morning and the Manager indicated that the former Coleraine and Inverness man was unlikely to be the end of their summer business.
