Derry City v Sligo Rovers – Fri 19th July – KO 7.45pm – Brandywell
SSE Airtricity League
The Candystripes are back in action on Friday evening when Sligo Rovers are the visitors to the Brandywell for a North West ‘derby’ (KO 7.45pm).
The home side are on a good run of form at present- unbeaten in their last six league games and while that includes last weekend’s draw at home to UCD, it also includes impressive points against Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians.
Assistant Manager Kevin Deery confirmed that City would have a strong panel to select from ahead of what he thought would be a difficult night.
“Sligo have only lost once in their last six so we know they’ll be a tough nut to crack” he began.
“Like ourselves they’ve drawn a few games but we saw last week there are no easy matches in this league as we’ve been saying from the start.”
“We created so many chances against UCD that we were bitterly disappointed not to have won it, but then they go and beat Bohs on Monday night.”
“On the team front, Michael McCrudden is back from his honeymoon although he has also been out injured for a long time. He has looked really sharp in training so we’ll check on him on Friday morning and decide then if he goes into the squad.”
“Junior is back in training again and Darren Cole has returned to full fitness, so to be honest, we’re almost at full strength for the match.”
‘I would just like to add that Ronan McKinley won’t make the squad after he took a very heavy knock in a practice game this week. He will be going for a scan today so everyone at the club wishes him well and hopes he is back again very soon.”
Eoin Toal will also miss Friday’s match as he serves a one-match suspension for collecting five yellow cards.
City will be hoping to continue this run of form ahead of a busy period which continues next weekend with a visit to Ballybofey.
On match day from 7pm, tickets will be on sale from Long Tower Youth Club which can be accessed from the stadium car park.
