Derry City vs Waterford – Mon 5th Aug – KO 7pm – Brandywell
EA SPORTS Cup Semi-Final
Derry City are back in action at the Brandywell on Monday evening as they entertain Waterford in the semi-final of this year’s EA Sports Cup.
It is a second successive midweek trip to Foyleside for Alan Reynolds’ side and Candystripes’ boss Declan Devine insists that his side needs to be better despite winning last week’s league game.
“We played well at times last Monday night and even though I felt we deserved to win, I still maintain we will need to be better if we are to progress to the final.”
“This is a very important game for us because cup finals don’t come along all that often. We have quite a few players in our squad who haven’t won a major trophy before, either with Derry City or elsewhere, so it would be a great lift to get to a final.”
“With so much at stake we will field the strongest team available to us and I would also appeal to our fantastic supporters to come out in numbers to back us. The Brandywell is a special place especially on these cup nights and their support could make all the difference to the team.”
“On the personnel front, Devine will be without Conor Davis who opened his account in Friday night’s win against UCD. Davis has already represented the Students in this year’s competition and can therefore play no further part.
Other than that the home side will name the same squad that travelled to Dublin at the weekend as they bid to build on their superb record in this competition.
Just before the game, tickets will be on sale from Long Tower Youth Club which can be accessed from the stadium car park.
