UCD v Derry City – Fri 2nd Aug – KO 7.45pm – UCD Bowl
SSE Airtricity League
City head to the UCD Bowl in Dublin on Friday night to take on the students (KO 7.45pm).
The Candystripes will be looking to make up for the frustration UCD caused on their last visit to the Brandywell as they kept Derry out and left with a point.
Kearns in goal for UCD earned the plaudits that night but he’s currently serving a multiple game suspension for the events at the recent UCD v Bohs match so will miss Friday’s game.
Drive 105 spoke to Derry gaffer, Declan Devine ahead of the match.
“Three points is all that matters and it doesn’t matter if we’re playing UCD or Dundalk. That’s the mindset of the players, of the staff.”
“We’ve got to make sure that in every single game we walk off the pitch having left everything on the pitch.”
“There’s no easy games, I keep saying it but we’re in a good place at the minute. We’re in a very positive frame of mind, playing some fantastic football. We’re creating lots of opportunities, especially away from home where we’ve scored the second most amount of goals in the league.”
“We must be at our best every 90 minutes and the players are giving everything for that.”
“The last phase of games throw up a lot of different results and we must remain focused on what we’re trying achieve here.”
Regarding team news, Eoghan Stokes has left the club and joined Cork City, Devine had only good things to say about Eoghan but just couldn’t promise him game time. Defender, Patrick McClean has joined Irish League side, Glentoran.
Apart from that, the manager will be picking from the same panel as on Monday night. Junior missed that victory over Waterford and will be assessed again closer to Friday’s game.
