Derry City’s players know exactly what they have to do on Friday night according to team manager Declan Devine, as Finn Harps arrive at Brandywell for the final league fixture of the 2019 season.
The Derry boss was disappointed at his side’s 3-1 defeat at home to St. Pat’s on Tuesday, meaning they still have a job to do in this North West derby.
A point on Friday night will secure Europa League football for the Candystripes and although the visitors will probably have one eye on Monday night’s play-off first leg, Devine is having none of that.
“It’s a North West derby and they are never anything other than tough” he began.
“Harps came here in the League Cup with players missing and they proved a handful then, so we are preparing for exactly that- a tough game.”
“We let ourselves down on Tuesday night but we have another chance on Friday and we have to approach it correctly.”
“This club, this group of players deserve European football for their efforts over the course of the season, but they have to earn it.”
“The boys know what they have to do and this is their chance to do it.”
City have no injury concerns ahead of the game and with Gerardo Bruna returning to the side as a second half substitute on Tuesday, Devine has options in the middle of the park in what is now their biggest match of the season.
City can of course still qualify for Europe either way if Pats fail to beat Dundalk, but there is a real sense at Brandywell that they desperately want to do this on their own steam.
On match day from 7pm, tickets will be on sale from Long Tower Youth Club which can be accessed from the stadium car park.
