Sligo Rovers v Derry City, Showgrounds, Saturday, 7.45pm
Declan Devine is refusing to look beyond the Sligo Showgrounds on Saturday evening as his side prepares for a huge week at the end of the 2019 season.
The Candystripes will play their first game in 15 days against the Bit ‘o Red before closing out their campaign against St Pats on Tuesday and Finn Harps next Friday, with both of those games at the Brandywell.
City are currently 5 points behind Bohemians in third after Keith Long’s side’s win over champions Dundalk last weekend, although Devine’s men have played a game less. The Dalymount outfit will travel to fifth placed St Pats on Friday night and with something having to give there in the race for Europe, a win for the visitors in Sligo would be massive.
The Derry manager insisted however that he won’t be sidetracked by events elsewhere.
“We’re concentrating on the Sligo game and nothing else. There are three games left and if we win those we qualify for Europe. It is vital to prepare for each one in turn” he began.
“We haven’t dwelt on results over the course of the season. We’ve evaluated performances and moved on to the next match and there’s no reason to do anything differently now.”
City have no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip- Darren Cole and Jack Malone who have both been ruled out for the season being the only players missing.
The Brandywell side have yet to concede a goal to Liam Buckley’s men this season although they were held to a 0-0 draw on their previous visit. The home side recorded a similar result against Shamrock Rovers in their last match at the Showgrounds so Devine’s team have plenty of work to do on Saturday.
“We have given ourselves a decent chance of Europa League football next season. There’s a long break at the end of next week and we’ desperately want to go into that having finished the job we set out to do” concluded the Derry boss.
