Declan Devine has announced midfielder Conor McCormack as his 1st XI captain for the 2020 season, with Mark McChrystal named club captain.
Ciaron Harkin has been named as McCormack’s deputy as the team prepares for next Friday night’s league opener at Oriel Park.
McCormack has certainly hit the ground running in pre-season and the City boss says he fits the bill perfectly for the armband.
“Conor knows the club and knows the level of expectation at Derry City. He has bought into what we’re trying to do here from the start and has been setting the standard since he came in.”
“We need a leader on the pitch and Conor is exactly that. He is a proven winner who knows what it takes to compete for honours in our league.”
“Mark McChrystal is a perfect foil for the role of club captain. He has had a fantastic career in England and Scotland and obviously closer to home as well.”
“Everyone at the club has a lot of respect for Mark and he is an ideal person to mentor the younger players.”
“This will be a tough season in the League of Ireland and we need the right people to lead on and off the pitch. I am convinced we won’t be found wanting with these lads showing the way.”
City’s first game at the Brandywell will be against Finn Harps on Feb 21st.
Season tickets are available to purchase and collect on Saturday 8th Feb 10am-2pm in the Brandywell. More info here.
